Yellow Brick House: Christmas Tour 2013

With Christmas taking soooo dang long to get here, I couldn't wait to put our decorations right after Thanksgiving break! We are slowly adding to our Christmas candy-themed decor collection, and I love the life & cheer it brings to our home! {And yes, that is Friends on the tv...we are now on season 6 after staring a week ago from the pilot episode. I know, it's ridiculous}

We are in California for the holidays in my parents Grinch-themed house, so I'll definitely have to take some photos to share with all of you. It is totally decked out! Hope you are all enjoying your families right about now, and counting down the days 'till Christmas :)

My Typical Post About Fall

It's already starting to get ridiculously cold here in Provo! I'm hoping it'll warm up just a tad so I can enjoy some of my favorite things about Fall:
+ the crisp cool air
+ tall cognac riding boots
+ caramel apple cider from Starbucks
+ burgundy, plum & green floral arrangements
+ big sweaters with comfy leggings
+ decorating for Halloween
+ getting cozy in my fluffy blankets
+ dark colored nail polish & lipstick
+ warm, delicious smelling candles
+ pumpkin-flavored treats
+ knitted scarves & beanies
+ and finally, the leaves turning pretty colors and floating to the ground!

The Start of Summer

These are some pictures from our first weekend here; pedicures with my mom, salmon Sunday dinner with the fam, and decorating our new 'lil place with some clearance stuff from Target. Woot woot!

Ryan is co-managing a pest control team here in So-Cal which means long hours {8:30am-8pm} all day everyday {except for Sunday}, but it also means that all his hard work will pay off majorly at the end of the summer. 

I'm especially excited for this summer because our last summer of doing sales in Portland, OR was absolutely the most miserable thing ever {I'll have to save that story for another post}. Lots of gloomy days, hard to sell doors, illnesses, and family drama served for a less than savory summer! This summer is already shaping up to be a wayyy better time and I couldn't be more stoked. Even more so cause it's been almost 3 years since I've spent a summer in California. I already got some pool time planned for tomorrow, I'm going to my brother's basketball team car wash this Saturday, and I start my internship next week {which I'll also have to explain in another post!}...aka life is good :)

Things That Make Me Sad

+ How candy looks cute on my table, but I don't want to/like to eat it
{Other than that, my new owl & candy jar make me quite happy}
+ Dying flower arrangements
+ People who are rude to me at work
 {Aka, you people attacking the sale section 5 minutes before closing time, while I'm trying to organize it...you know who you are}
+ Lame exams/tests/quizzes/ busy work homework
+ Chipped nails
+ Candles that smell good up close, but when you burn them they suck at their job
+ When DSW packs you Size 6 flats in the Size 8 box you ordered, then having to trek to FedEx to return ship it, even though you were smart and ordered the correct size
+ Being sick
+ A dirty house
+ Google deleting stuff that I like

*Correction*
 After some Twitter conversations & further researching, it is found that the Reading List on your Blogger Interface with your blog subscriptions will remain while your option to catch up on your favorite blogs through Google Reader will now disappear.
Therefore, at this point in time, your followers on GFC will not be affected by Google Reader disappearing...as far as we all can surmise. What most bloggers are saying is that Google has already done away with GFC for non-blogger based websites and that it is only a matter of time before they do away with the widget on blogger websites. So maybe now is the time to start switching over readership to: Bloglovin, Google +, Hello Cotton, an RSS feed, or Facebook.

Adorable Christmas DIY Decorations

1. Burlap Stocking Tutorial

Here is a short list of the DIY Christmas decorations that I am dying to try!
{Of course they were all found on Pinterest, but I linked up the original sources}
These burlap stockings are adorable and it's an excuse to whip out my sewing machine :)

2. Glitter Spray Painted Sticks

I have a couple of vases that need filling with some Christmas cuteness.
I am planning on picking up some paper flowers from Hobby Lobby and then filling in the arrangement  with these glitter twigs!

3. Christmas Yard Lollipops

Put a PVC pipe in the bottom, wrap with cellophane, and line your walkway or driveway with these.

This is something I've been wanting to do for forever!
The theme I go for with my Christmas decorations is a Candyland feel.
Lots of candy, bright reds, pinks, and blues all throughout the house!

4. Advent Calendar

Such a simple & adorable countdown to Christmas!

I would put some candies and mini presents in those 'lil packages :)

5. Handmade Christmas Trees

Finally, these trees are to die for.
The base is made from a cereal box!
I guess I need to start buying and eating more cereal to make these...

Dear Halloween,

I had so much fun decorating for you!

But now it's time to decorate for Thanksgiving.

Honestly, it's not as fun to decorate with turkeys as it is to decorate with spiders :)

Dear Illness,

Omg, I finally was able to somewhat sleep last night!

First time in a week.

Hurry up and go away so I can get back to real life.

Dear Snake,

You scared the holy crap out of the adults but the children loved you.

Seriously petting and hugging you.

This doesn't make sense!

Now you are stuffed in a corner because Ryan practically screeches everytime he sees you.

Dear Holiday Hours At the Mall,
You are looking brutal!
At least I'll be getting lotsa hours this season?

Dear Hair & Lack of Eyebrows,
Stop giving me grief, I'll get you taken care of next week!
This whole greasy hair and no eyebrows bit is getting old right quick.

Dear School,

I promise I'll get better, and go to class.

Ahhhh ONE MORE YEAR OF SCHOOL.

Yellow Brick House: Curtains = Now I'm an Adult

I've taken it upon myself to transform the interior of our 'lil yellow brick house to make it more "us", 

seeing as how we plan on living here for the next 2-3 years until we graduate.

The picture above is a photo of our bedroom sent to us by the previous tenants before we moved in.

Um, scary.

Almost every dang wall in this house is brown, which would usually not be an issue if all of our furniture was not already brown.

So far I've painted the front room, kitchen, and dining room various shades of blue.

My color scheme for the house is mostly blue/cream/white with accents of yellow & orange-y red.

I just recently painted the wall behind my bed a cream color (my accent wall), hung up some adorable blue curtains along with a candle holder key, our wedding canvas, and got me a little burlap lamp for my bedside table.

I am ECSTATIC!

Now we are on the search for another bedside table for Ryan's side, a lamp for Ryan, and some more things to hang on the walls.

It doesn't even feel like my room anymore!
It feels so sophisticated and I'm starting to feel more like an adult...super weird.
Something about having curtain rods permanently tacked into the wall makes everything seem official.

Can't wait to get crackin' on:
 my gallery wall in the front room, the rest of the bedroom, and then off to conquer the office!
Then the whole house will be done....what will I do with myself?!

Another holiday I love almost as much as my berf-day?

HALLOWEEN.

I'm so excited for the air to get cooler so I can continue to deck out my house in spooky decor with no judgement, even though I started decorating a week ago...which is no where near October.

Obviously I don't really care about this so-called "right time" to decorate for upcoming holidays.

PSH!

On the birthday party front...

I got a white sheet that will substitute as a projector screen, and have picked up some twinkle lights.

Still trying to figure out where to hang those up, and seeing if I need more...we shall see!

Plus, I'm thinking some kind of cute wooden sign to guide people to the backyard?

Ummm...Hello?

For some reason that's how I always always answer the phone.

Even if I know exactly who's calling.

It's weird, I know this.

Ok people, I finally got a freaking internet connection.

After 3 days of Ryan battling with the internet people to come over and set it up, they finally did and we are finally back to watching Heroes/Mad Men/So you think you can dance :)

First item of business I need to address, is the new house.

We just moved in this last week, and I am totally and utterly in love with it.

I'm sure you're thinking: 'Can you be in love with an inanimate object?'

The answer is YES.

Didn't you just say you loved those Steve Madden's you saw at Ross?

Want a tour?

Here is the walkway to our home & the front porch. One day we will be gettin' some seats to put outside so we can drink our lemonade & people watch.

This is the reading nook in our front room. That cabinet to the left is one that my dad found at a garage sale and stained a darker color for us, it's gorgeous :)

This is right by the entryway of the home, that opening to the right is the dining room. 

The dining room was originally a heinous red, so we painted it a light blue which totally complements the space, I'm extremely happy with it!

A piece of hand-me-down furniture that we dolled up with shiny new knobs from Hobby Lobby.

{I had never been to Hobby Lobby before my mom took me. She described it as a "Joann's, Michaels, and Home Goods combined and on crack." Yup, that was pretty spot on!}

The entry way from the dining room, going into the kitchen. The "R" was a gift my creative cousin Zannie made me as a wedding present. That bird thing on the wall, my Mom & I found at a totally rando yard sale around the corner. Totally worth the 2 bucks!

This hutch is built into the home, there is a similar spice cabinet built into a kitchen wall.

It adds to the charm of the home, which I love :)

I realize that I completely missed pictures of our: backyard, bedroom, office, bathroom, and kitchen.

And yes. That is pretty much half the house.

I promise some better pics of those soon!

Well kids, it's time for bed.
